Who We Are
The IUP Fencing Club is a club level sport! We meet three times a week at either Zink
or the Memorial Field House (check the schedule for details), but you can drop in whenever you have time.
Our members vary in skill from brand new fencers to advanced fencers. Club members
here primarily fence foil (one of three styles of fencing); however, those who are willing to learn will be taught epee
and/or sabre.
Aside from in-club fencing tournaments, we also attend other tournaments held at various
universities across western Pennsylvania. We have been recently recognized by the United States Fencing Association
(USFA) and we held our own tournament for the first time this past year! Our plans for next semester include bringing
back a long time IUPFC tradition called the Eye of Odin Tournament!
Club History
IUP Fencing Club had been in existence for quite some time, but died out when students
graduated and moved on from IUP. In early 2004, Steven Do and Jon Kurpaska, two avid fencers, set out to
rebuild it. The club has seen its fair share of ups and downs, but it endured. Steven and Jon have since departed from
IUP, but the fencing club is still going strong! It is now in the hands of new officers and continues
to grow and shape into a widely recognized organization!
